He is an American guitarist, known for being a member of the Thrash metal band Testament. In the year 1993 he left Testament, and in 1994 he joined the band Savatage to record Handful of Rain and a live album. Alex, during his first years of career endorsed with Ibanez being the 540S model the most usual.1 For a while he used Gibson guitars, Les Paul model and until mid 2013 he used Heritage guitars, semi-hollow and solid body in his Jazz trio and with Testament. In 2009 Heritage released Alex's first signature model, based on the H 150/157 model, with Seymour Duncan 59 and JB Jazz microphones. Beginning in September 2013 Skolnick joined the ESP family and the company announced the launch of Alex Skolnick's ESP and LTD signature models in 2014.
He has participated in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In 1995 he played with Ozzy Osbourne and in 2004 he made an appearance with Lamb of God on the album Ashes of the Wake. In 2009 he recorded with Rodrigo and Gabriela the song entitled Atman in which he performs an electric guitar solo, also playing it live.
